The Holy “City of Death”
Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. For Hindus, Varanasi is considered the holiest city. It is believed that dying and being cremated on the banks for the Ganges grants moksha, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Upon death, they bring the bodies to be cremated on wooden pyres by the Ganges river. Once burned, the remains and ashes are tossed into the Ganges River. I made a day trip to the the hallowed ghats to document this incredible practice.
